Her Journey

Every 4.2 seconds there's a new life
With little fingers and toes
That will overcome a mountain of hardships and strife
An uphill mountain that whips the bitter snow in your face
With a competitive wind that pulls you down
Ripping away your dreams and claiming the race
And those little toes will clench the ground
Even when you have to restrain your screams
You will find the strength and pull around

Before long, bitter snow will make you slip
Then the door will slam shut when you come home
And you will be screaming
because the mean boy took your toy ship
The door will slam shut when you come home
And you will be weeping
because the cheating boy broke your heart
Then the door will slam shut
When your grades are falling apart
Then the door will break when you slam it shut
And the cracks will keep reaching long after you leave
Through the floorboards, branching towards the hall
Like vines and they interweave
You'll be falling to the bottom of the mountain
And angel wings wouldn't help you down
But my arms will still be there to catch you
And smile sweetly to soothe your tattooed frown

The uphill mountain smooths out
And the snow melts
As the sun breaks the cloud
Finally, you smile and turn around
To see you left growing footprints
Forever to be remembered
And you'll become more than just a name in the newsprint
Then the vines grow flowers
They bury your old and grown fingers and toes
So I can crutch myself to your grave
To leave a rose
